Spinning Stories
I recently stumbled across the old comics by Gustave Verbeek, an early 20th century cartoonist who who made a weekly comic called "Upside-Downs of Little Lady Lovekins and Old Man Muffaroo". This was a weekly 6 panel comic with a twist..literally. You read the story, and then you flipped the comic 180 degrees and the story would continue. He made a total of 64 of these comics over a span of about 2 years. For those who are curious, all of them were recently restored and posted here and also in a book. Interestingly enough, the art of making these died with Verbeek as nobody ever continued this concept after he stopped making them in 1905. (Apart from Marcus Ivarson who redrew 20 of Verbeek's comics in his own style in a recent publication.)
Fascinated by the concept I tried my hand at making one of these comics, but in a space theme. Once that was decided it was quite easy to come up wirh a robot/alien duo that swaped places when flipped, the rest took some work. In the end a I came up with this. Click the image to enlarge, and the flipped version is included for convinience.
